Junior Brittany Fedenuik scored with five minutes left to help the Mount Baker girls' soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference win against Nooksack Valley Saturday, Sept. 8, at Nooksack Valley Elementary in Everson.
"I think we played well," Mount Baker coach Brenda Ellis said in a phone interview. "We had a tough couple of games this week, so we were kind of beat up. We played defensively, and it was a good way to finish our week."
Ellis said the Mountaineers have suffered a few injuries and therefore have been playing with a young lineup.
"Brittany is really good with her footwork in traffic," Ellis said. "She has great speed and can make a strong, accurate kick when she gets room."
Mount Baker (1-1-1, 0-0-0 NWC) opens its conference schedule against Bellingham at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Civic Stadium. Nooksack Valley (0-3-0, 0-0-0 NWC) begins its conference slate with a matchup against Sedro-Woolley at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, in Sedro-Woolley
