Writers of Herald fantasy to read at Village Books

Published: September 9, 2012

BELLINGHAM - The community members who wrote "Invitation to the Fire Ball," the six-part fantasy that appeared in The Bellingham Herald this summer, will read their chapters aloud at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Village Books, in Fairhaven.

The chapter writers were, in order: Cory Skerry, Hayley Krogh, Bliss Goldstein, Sarah Kruhlak, Shell Flower and Dan Goldstein.

Their fantasy dealt with the Fire Queen's grim plan for Bellingham, and the effort by Carmen, a local high-schooler, and Acerbus, a not-quite-human character, to thwart the queen.

This was the third year the Herald has hosted a serial story. Two years ago, Herald staff members wrote "Unearthed," a mystery grounded in Bayview Cemetery. Last year, community members wrote "Mystery Lode," an adventure set in Fairhaven.

All of them can be read at BellinghamHerald.com/novel.
