LA CONNER - The Lummi football team lost 26-14 to La Conner in a 11-man game on Friday, Sept. 7, in La Conner.
Lummi was hampered by penalties and turnovers in the loss.
"We really shot ourselves in the foot," Lummi coach Jim Sandusky said. "I think if we could start the game over we would have won."
Lummi lost two fumbles and three interceptions in the loss. The team had a combined total of 110 yards in penalties.
"Execution was our main problem," Sandusky said. "We had mental breakdowns and turned the ball over. We had guys wide open not getting the ball. After watching film I know we are going to be saying to ourselves, 'If we could have just held on one more second' and 'If we could have just made that one more block.'"
Lummi was a combined 9 of 29 in passing for a total of 127 yards.
The Blackhawks had a better running game. Deion Hoskins ran for 47 yards and a touchdown, while Dimitri Sampson ran for 51 yards and a touchdown.
"The game was tough but we are a lot better for it," Hoskins said. "It was really physical. We need to be a lot more physical for the rest of our season."
La Conner scored 20 of their 26 points in the first half.
"We shut them down in the second half," Sandusky said. "We learned a lot in this game."
Lummi next plays at home on Friday, Sept. 14, against Taholah.
