Friday Harbor scored a touchdown with 2:24 left in the game in a back-and-forth Northwest Conference Class 1A victory over visiting Lynden Christian on Friday, Sept. 7.
The Lyncs dropped to 1-1, 0-1 NWC 1A while Friday Harbor improved to 2-0, 1-0 NWC.
"It was a very hard-hitting game, it was real physical," Lynden Christian coach Galen Kaemingk said in a phone interview. "It was a good learning experience."
The game was tied at 14-14 with Friday Harbor driving before a fumble occurred at the Lyncs' 1-yard line. Friday Harbor maintained possession and Micah Powell scored a touchdown on the next play for a 21-14 lead with 2:24 left. Lynden Christian's next drive reached Friday Harbor's 30-yard line before it stalled after two sacks.
Each team scored a touchdown in the first quarter, Friday Harbor's coming on a 5-yard run and Lynden Christian tying the game on a Josh Friberg 2-yard run. Friday Harbor took a 14-7 lead into halftime before Friberg scored again, this time on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.
Both teams entered the game having not allowed a point on defense.
Lynden Christian next hosts Coupeville at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 14.
