BLAINE - The Blaine Borderites' prolific offense was on full display Friday, Sept. 7, against Terry Fox High School (B.C.), amassing 401 yards of total offense en route to a 44-21 victory.

Leading the way was senior tailback Mario Gobbato, who rushed for 284 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries. In the first two games of the season, Gobbato has rushed for nine touchdowns and 501 yards while averaging just above 13 yards a carry.

Sophomore quarterback Nate Kramme was happy with the way the offense moved the ball.

"We ran the ball very well and the passing game improved a lot," he said.

Although Gobbato and the running game will be relied upon to carry much of the offensive load this season, head coach Jay Dodd game planned to throw the ball more this week than last - Blaine threw the ball five times in its opening game.

"We wanted to attempt more passes and get more experience there," Dodd explained, "but we're just worried about our pass protection. We attempted 21 passes but our quarterback got beat up today."

Kramme finished the game 10 of 21 for 74 yards and a three-yard touchdown strike to senior wide receiver Brett Allen on the Borderites' opening possession of the game.

And although the offense took center stage again Friday night, adding to its season total of 94 points in the first two games, the defense played well only surrendering 21 points - 13 of that late in the fourth quarter.

"I think our team played very well on defense," Dodd said. "They had a big, strong quarterback and a couple very capable wide receivers, and that was good for us to play a team that gets in the shotgun and does that kind of stuff."
