The Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry is hosting a Jobs Summit with the goal of finding common ground on what can be done to promote job creation.
The summit, to be held Friday, Sept. 28, has 100 business owners and about 30 public officials invited to the event, said Ken Oplinger, president and CEO of the chamber. The invited delegates will spend the day working toward a common mission and action plan for the community.
"When it comes to economic development, everyone has a different definition - a different idea of what it is and how you do it. But when we start talking about creating and growing family-wage jobs, we can bring people together to a common purpose that they generally support," Oplinger said.
