Blaine shuts out Nooksack Valley

Published: September 7, 2012

The Blaine girls' soccer team defeated Nooksack Valley 7-0 at home in a non-conference game on Thursday, Sept. 6.

The Borderites were led by Hope Wilkett with three goals and Emily Roe with three assists and a goal.

"Emily getting three assists is really great, I think assists are overlooked a lot," Blaine coach Dan Steelquist said in a phone interview. "We really wanted to see the whole team work together and that was really what it was about today."

Liz Berry added two goals and two assists and Olivia Olason had one goal for Blaine.

"We spread the scoring around throughout the game and to different players," Steelquist said. "I was happy to get the shutout, and our keeper Shirin Roth-Lerner did a great job, but the defense adjusted really well. We gave up some runs in the the first half, but in the second they really communicated well."

Blaine hosts Granite Falls on Saturday, Sept. 8, while Nooksack Valley is at home against Mount Baker in a non-conference game on Saturday, Sept. 8.
