PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Blaine Borderites

BLAINE

BORDERITES

Coach: Carey Bacon

Last year: Did not have a team score at the NWC Championships. Did not have a team score at the 2A Northwest District meet, but had one runner advance to state.

Runners to watch: Hillary Kiele (so.), Hannah Kean (fr.)

Outlook: For the first time in four years, Kiersten Sigfusson isn't in orange and black to lead the Borderites during the fall, as she graduated and is now at Western Washington. Kiele is the top returner, but she is coming off a stress fracture. "She is still recovering, but it's going well," Bacon said in a phone interview. "She will improve steadily throughout the year. She's doing fine right now, and I anticipate for her to be in competition." Only five runners turned out for the team, meaning Blaine can field a full team but has zero depth. Kean has been impressive during early workouts. "She's a hard worker," Bacon said. "I think she's going to learn very quickly. She was a middle school runner, and you can see her picking things up really well."
