PREP GIRLS' CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW: Lynden Christian Lyncs

Published: September 7, 2012

LYNDEN CHRISTIAN

LYNCS

Coach: Darren Postma

Last year: Finished sixth at the NWC Championships. Finished eighth at the 1A State Championships and had Marissa Hielkema place 10th.

Runners to watch: Marissa Hielkema (jr.), Emily Visser (sr.), McKenzie Young (so.), Julia Morris (so.)

Outlook: The Lyncs return four of their five scoring runners from state last year, and have a "couple of new runners that may move into the mix," Postma said in a phone interview. Hielkema leads that group, and she is looking healthy, Postma said. "She put in some good, steady miles this summer, but we don't want it to end like it did last year for her," Postma said. "We're trying to find balance for all these kids." Young and Morris had strong spring seasons in track and should help LC compete in what figures to be an even tougher tri-district with Mount Baker and South Whidbey dropping down in classification.
