Squalicum girls take second with shorthanded side

Published: September 6, 2012

The Squalicum girls' cross country team finished second in its season-opening meet at Washington Park on Wednesday, Sept. 5. The team scored 52 points and was led by Claire Scott with a time of 23 minutes, 7 seconds.

"We didn't have Brittany Gappa today and only had five of of our girls run," Squalicum coach Katrina Henry said in a phone interview. "Some of them treated it as a workout and others ran it as a race but everyone did pretty good today."

Gappa was ineligible due to not having participated in enough practices.

Burlington-Edison finished with a perfect score of 15. Anacortes didn't have a team score because the team didn't field enough participants.

Rachel Phipps finished with a time of 23:53 for Squalicum.

The race was won by RaynJoy Norton from Burlington-Edison with a time of 20:23.
