BELLINGHAM - Local Girl Scouts will be celebrating the organization's 100th anniversary with several special events at Bellis Fair mall from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8.
Scouts will have sing-alongs and a storytelling booth, build tents and tie knots, put on a fashion show, do science projects and invite the community to contribute to recycling stations.
In honor of the anniversary theme "Forever Green," evergreen saplings will be given out, and the first 100 girls who register as Girl Scouts will receive a free "Go Green" patch.
The area's oldest Girl Scout, 93-year-old E.K. Butler, is expected to attend, and everyone is welcome at the event.
Girl Scouts of Western Washington serves more than 26,000 girls in 17 counties. For more about the organization, information on joining or volunteering, go to GirlScoutsWW.org.
