Courtney Hollander scored a goal in the second half and the Lynden Christian girls' soccer team held Lynden to two shots on goal in a 2-0 non-conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Lynden.
It was the season opener for both schools.
"It was one of our better first matches we've played in quite awhile," Lyncs coach Brent De Ruyter said in a phone interview. "Overall, it was a good start."
Lynden Christian took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute on an own goal. The Lyncs opened the second half with a goal in the 47th minute when Hollander took a cross from Sally Vlas from 6 yards in front of the goal and scored for a 2-0 lead.
"It was a nice goal," De Ruyter said. "We distributed the ball and had opportunities from multiple parts of the field."
Daphnee Manderson made two saves to get the shutout in goal.
Lynden Christian next plays at Mount Baker on Thursday, Sept. 6, while Lynden hosts La Conner on Thursday, Sept. 6.
