Three Bellingham lacrosse players honored

Three Bellingham lacrosse players were selected as 2011-12 Burnaby Mountain Selects scholar Athletes in August.

Alyis Clark (Sehome High School, 2014), Nicholas Estrada (Bellingham High School, 2013) and Andrew Hoemann (Sehome High School, 2014) were chosen. Clark is a defensive player, Estrada is a defensive and long stick midfielder and Hoemann is a goalie - all on the boys' elite squad.

LAKE PADDEN TRAIL HALF SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

The Lake Padden Trail Half marathon is searching for 50-plus volunteers for its race on Oct. 20.

The event needs volunteers before, during and after the race, which includes marketing, preparing raceer packts, photography, race timing, help at each leg and take down. All volunteers will receive a T-shirt, a raflle entry and lunch.

ADULT BASKETBALL AND VOLLEYBALL LEAGUES FORMING

The 2012-13 Bellingham Adult Basketball League and Adult Volleyball League are now forming.

The basketball league fee is $550 for 12 games and fees will be accepted from Sept. 4 to Sept. 21. A preliminary roster with a minimum of six players must be turned in with the league fee. Practice dates begin Oct. 15 and games are tentativley scheduled to begin on Oct. 24.

The volleyball league fee is $375 per team and fees are accepted until Sept. 21. Practices begin Oct. 15 and games are tentatively scheduled to begin Oct. 24.

BOATING SKILLS AND SEAMANSHIP CLASSES

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Bellingham is offering boating skills and seamanship classes beginning Wednesday, Sept. 5.

The 13-session course, which qualifies people for the Washington State Boaters Education card upon completion, teaches boaters how to handle their boat, safety regulations, dealing with emergencies, and radio communication techniques. The course also teaches to use navigational charts in the San Juan Islands. Washington State law requires all persons under age 40 operating a motor of 15 horsepower or more to have the Boaters' Education Card.

The class will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at St Luke's Community Education Center 3333 Squalicum Parkway. The cost is $50 and pre-registration is required. For registration or more information go to bliaux.com or contact John Milczewski at 360-739-1310 or email john@bli.net.

RAWITZER COMPETES AT MASTER-40 AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Jon Rawitzer of Bellingham finished tied for 29th at the Pacific Norethwest Men's Master-40 Amateur Championship on Aug. 28 in Pendleton, Ore.

Rawitzer shot a 14-over 158 over two rounds. Curtis Rystadt of Portland, Ore., won the event with a 136 total.

HOLE-IN-ONE

Darrell Mindell had a hole-in-one on Aug. 19 at Shuksan Golf Club. Mindell used a pitching wedge on the 119-yard No. 11 hole.
