FIVE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Taylor Reid

Ferndale

Sr., defensive specialist

Reid has been a staple in Ferndale's volleyball program for some time now. She is taking on a leadership role this year by filling the void Laurel Erdman and Karley Eggert left. She is also making the move from setter to defensive specialist.

Katie Becker

Sehome

Sr., middle

Becker is a force in the middle and returns after getting a taste of the Class 2A State Tournament. She will be key in helping the Mariners put the clamps on strong Northwest Conference hitters.

Cassie Mulder

Lynden Christian

Sr., hitter

Mulder hasn't seen extensive action during her LC career, but that's what happens you're a grade behind Jasmine Hommes and Brielle VanZonneveld. Mulder has good size, and Grycel said she has been thrilled with the improvements she's made in her game.

Maddi Hommes

Lynden

Sr., hitter

Hommes is one of a handful of talented Lion seniors. That list includes the likes of Brooke Bonsen, Taylor VanDalen and Kayla Johnston. Look for Hommes to step up this season and help Lynden return back to the Class 2A State Tournament.

McKenzie Impero

Nooksack Valley

sr., outside hitter

Impero enters her fourth year on varsity and should be one of the top outside hitters in the Northwest Conference. Coach Jenny Simmons raves about her work ethic and athleticism. It doesn't hurt four-year setter McKinna Larson is her setter, either.
