LYNDEN
LIONS
Coach: Angie Dallas
Last year: Finished third in the Class 2A Northwest Conference standings with a league record of 10-3. ... Ended season after going 1-2 in the Class 2A District Tournament and finished 11-6 overall. ... Carrie Starbuck was an All-Whatcom County selection.
Players to watch: Maddi Hommes (sr., H); Brooke Bonsen (sr., M); Taylor VanDalen (sr., S); Kayla Johnston (sr., M); Stephanie Somers (jr., H)
Outlook: Top to bottom, the Lions' roster is stacked with talented athletes. From track competitors to softball stars to state basketball players, it seems nearly every player has enjoyed success off the volleyball court as well as on. Players such as Carrie Starbuck and Christine Lee will be missed, but coach Angie Dallas has three outstanding senior leaders in hitter Maddi Hommes, middle Brooke Bonsen and setter Taylor VanDalen. "We want to make sure we don't leave anything behind this year," Dallas said in a phone interview. "We don't like being home in November." Hitters Kat Webb and Stephanie Somers certainly add to Lynden's chances of contending for a state spot. Kelsey Bouwman, Jenna Bonsen and Kaitlyn Mark add plenty more talent to the Lions' roster.
