Lummi Island ferry begins annual dry dock Sept. 5

Published: September 3, 2012

LUMMI ISLAND - Whatcom Chief users are reminded that ferry service between Lummi Island and Gooseberry Point is scheduled to be passenger-only from Wednesday, Sept. 5, to Sept. 27, for the ferry's annual dry dock.

Shuttle service on the island will be available for up to 14 passengers. The shuttle runs from 5:55 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. and from 3:55 p.m. to 10:50 p.m. No pets or bicycles are allowed in the van.

No additional dry dock parking spaces will be available this year, due to closure of the leased ferry parking lot near Gooseberry Point. Parking will still be available in designated areas. Cars must be parked in designated areas or they will be towed.

The Whatcom Chief will make all of its scheduled runs Tuesday, Sept. 4, but will be passenger-only the following morning. In the afternoon, the Whatcom Chief will be replaced by the contracted, passenger-only ferry.

There will be no ferry service from 10:20 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, while the docks are altered for the substitute ferry.
