September is National Senior Center Month, and Bellingham Senior Activity Center has several special events planned to mark the occasion.
Along with the center's ongoing classes and activities, a program on expected changes in Medicare will be presented from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 13 by Marsha Neal from VibrantUSA. Insurance companies will be on hand to answer questions and explain their plans.
From Sept. 20 through Oct. 25, the center will offer a "Living Well with Chronic Disease" workshop that runs for two and a half hours, once a week, for the six weeks. Topics include ways to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; exercises to maintain and improve strength, flexibility and endurance; the appropriate use of medications; how to communicate effectively with family, friends and health professionals; nutrition; and how to evaluate new treatments.
The center also has two fundraisers planned: a community breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Sept. 8, and bingo from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 22, with door prizes, cash payouts and a jackpot prize.
The center is at 315 Halleck St. Details: 360-733-4030 or wccoa.org.
