So now that we have outsourced our jobs to Asia we are expected to send them our coal to power their factories. I am not anti-union or against supporting local jobs, but this idea of a coal port is indeed about "jobs now"... jobs in Asia. This port is not designed to send apples, wheat or corn, nor anything else we produce. It is about sending our non-renewable resource to meet Asia's energy needs.
China is our economic and political rival. Do the math -- a couple hundred local jobs that will support many thousands of jobs in Asia. How many more good union jobs will go away when China begins building their own copies of Boeing aircraft or our most advanced military weapons? By supplying Asia with our coal we are enabling them to remain even more competitive.
Every time I see a sign "Good Jobs Now" I can't help but think of the old term "communist sympathizer."
