Says park tax hurts struggling middle class

Published: August 30, 2012

Well, here we go again! Our city politicians are again wanting to create a new tax to repay the money they took from us, without permission, out of our "greenway" taxes (see Aug. 24, 2012, The Bellingham Herald article "Chuckanut Ridge tax sought"). They are again taking money from us and asking us to repay ourselves for the money they took. They raised our water bill to buy property without our permission. Even in Arizona (so I'm told) where water is less plentiful, water is considerly cheaper than in Bellingham.

It appears that our city government is taking lessons from our federal government on how to stick it to the middle class. Well, I've got news for them, the middle class is now becoming the poor, especially after water bills and taxes in Bellingham. When will they discover we (the middle class) are struggling to survive? Maybe we should just declare Bellingham a "poor zone" and have the city government support and house all who were previously in the middle class.
