BELLINGHAM - Police are looking for up to three men who beat a Bellingham man with hockey sticks and broke bones in his face early Sunday morning, Aug. 12.
The man was walking home from a bar at about 2 a.m. when he came across a man who looked like he needed help in the 3000 block of Northwest Avenue, said Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young. After approaching him, he realized the other man might be trying to steal his cellphone.
When the man got home, he realized his cellphone was missing and returned to the 3000 block of Northwest to try to find it. When he got back to the area, he was assaulted by two or three men with hockey sticks.
The man was injured, but didn't realize how seriously until he went to a doctor and learned he had broken bones in his face.
Police said the stick-wielding assaulters might live in the Northwest Avenue area. Officers are looking for anyone with information about the suspects; people with tips can call Detective Dan Kelsh at 360-778-8800.
