Five people were injured, including three children, and two vehicles were totaled in a collision on Thursday evening, Aug. 23, on Birch Bay-Lynden Road in Whatcom County.

A 2006 Pontiac Wave driven by Surrey, B.C., resident Kauri Bendickson, 25, was westbound when it crossed the center line and struck an eastbound 1997 Chevrolet pickup carrying Aldergrove, B.C., resident Donald Waines, 71, and Surrey, B.C., resident Barbara Waines, 71, according to a news release by the Washington State Patrol. The Chevrolet went into a ditch on the westbound shoulder and the Pontiac came to rest in the westbound lane.
