Meeting to address development changes in Bellingham's King Mountain neighborhood

Published: August 25, 2012

BELLINGHAM - The public is invited to comment on a proposal to change the development rules for a 42-acre portion of King Mountain neighborhood.

Property owner Edgewater Park LLC proposes relaxing development requirements on the mostly unbuilt land west of James Street and north of Orchard Drive. The applicant also would increase residential density, requiring 3,600 square feet per apartment rather than the current 5,000.

The owner also would like to allow for medical offices and laboratories, which "will allow the hospital to better serve the community," the property owner's application states.

Other property owners in the affected area are Sunrise Holding LLC and Ahi Ohana.

The public meeting is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, at the Building Industry Association of Whatcom County, 1650 Baker Creek Place.
