The Department of Homeland Security seized more than 26 pounds of cocaine from a California man during a traffic stop north of Bellingham Thursday, Aug. 23, according to the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies worked with the department to pull over a convertible Chrysler with California plates at about 2:45 p.m. Thursday on Hannegan Road near Kelly Road.
A drug dog alerted deputies to the presence of drugs and the driver consented to a search of his car. Deputies found numerous packages of a substance believed to be cocaine hidden in a compartment in the car.
The driver, whose name was not released, is a 43-year-old man from California. The car and the drugs were seized by Homeland Security, and the driver was brought in for further investigation.
