BELLINGHAM - A Bellingham restaurant gave new meaning to car-side service after a vehicle crashed into its front door Monday, Aug. 20.

A woman in her mid-70s was trying to park a Kia Rondo in front of Applebee's on Sunset Drive when she mistakenly hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, said Bellingham Police traffic officer Chad Cristelli. The car jumped the curb and slammed into the entrance of the restaurant at about 12:45 p.m.

No one was injured in the crash. The car had to be towed out of the doorway, and the door and its frame were damaged.

Customers still were able to access the restaurant through a side door. The driver was not cited because the accident occurred on private property, Cristelli said.
