Rant: Candidate's "handle" belongs on story comments, not election ballot

Published: August 13, 2012

I opened up my Whatcom County official primary election ballot today to fill it out and cast my votes to help determine the future of my country.

What do I find? A name on the ballot that belongs in the comment section of the newspaper. I won't write it here because whoever it is does not deserve any recognition.

But since when is a "handle" used as a name on an official ballot? Do we now allow politicians to run anonymously? Please do not let the voting system become the comments section of the internet. I am appalled.
