Bells lose lead in ninth, fall 9-8

Published: August 6, 2012

A third inning grand slam by Bellingham's Grant Fink was not enough to earn the Bells a win. Wenatchee rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat Bellingham 9-8 during a West Coast League matchup Sunday, Aug. 5, in Wenatchee.

Fink's blast sparked a five-run third, but Wenatchee promptly answered, matching Bellingham's five runs in the bottom of the inning.

Trailing 6-5, the Bells scored a run in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to take an 8-6 lead. Wenatchee's Mitchell Gunsolus scored on a walk-off error in the ninth to give the AppleSox the win.

Fink finished 1 for 4 with four RBI, Jarel Lewis went 2 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored and Andrew Ely drove in a run on a single.

Bellingham returns home Monday, Aug. 6 for a four-game series against Walla Walla to wrap up the regular season. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. at Joe Martin Field.
