FERNDALE -- Interstate 5 at Slater Road was shut down in both directions late Saturday night, Aug. 4, after reports of a man firing a weapon from the overpass.
The shooting, possibly from a rifle, was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded, and the freeway lanes were closed as police searched for the reported gunman.
No one is believed to have been hit, and the shooter was not found, according to a Whatcom County Sheriff's Office report.
The freeway reopened about two hours later.
UPDATE: As of Sunday afternoon, the suspect was still at large. The Ferndale Police Department, the lead agency in the case, could not be reached for comment.
