FERNDALE - A Ferndale man who backed his SUV over a 13-year-old boy, then ran him over again, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and hit and run Tuesday, July 24, according to court documents.

Keith Everett Miller, 27, was driving in the 2300 block of Christy Place with three passengers in his Ford Expedition June 15 when an object was thrown at his vehicle, according to prosecuting documents.

The three passengers said Miller stopped, turned the SUV around and drove at a group of kids, according to court documents. He then put the Ford in reverse and hit something, the passengers told police. The passengers felt the vehicle lift up like it ran someone over.

Miller put the car back in drive and drove back over the child, according to the court documents.

Afterward, Miller said, "That little bastard deserved it," two of the passengers told police.

Miller did not stop to give any insurance information or help care for the injured victim, prosecuting documents allege.

The boy survived the incident, but his ankle was broken and he was bruised and scraped, according to the documents.

Miller was booked into Whatcom County Jail Thursday, July 19. Should he post bail, which was set at $250,000, Miller would be required to stay in Washington state, not leave Whatcom County overnight without permission, and he would not be allowed to drive.

Miller could face 20 years to life in prison if convicted.
