American Indian land stewardship topic of Friday Harbor talks

FRIDAY HARBOR - A lecture series, "Native Americans & Stewardship," is offered this summer and fall at the Friday Harbor campus of Skagit Valley College.

The free series is sponsored by the San Juan Island National Historical Park and the Madrona Institute.

The first talk, by environmental studies professor Lissa Wadewitz of Oregon, is at 7 p.m. Friday, July 20, at 221 Weber Way. All the lectures are at that time and place, except a weaving demonstration, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 4-5 at English Camp Parade Ground. Dave Oreiro is the speaker on Sept. 9. He is vice president for campus development at Northwest Indian College, on the Lummi Reservation.
