Tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain to visit Bellingham, offer tours and sailings

The tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain, which is visiting the Squalicum Harbor Marina Thursday through Tuesday, July 19-24. The topsail ketch will offer walk-on tours, family-oriented adventure sails and romantic evening sails Friday through Tuesday.

Whatcom County maritime enthusiasts are invited to Squalicum Harbor Marina, 722 Coho Way, to welcome the tall ship Hawaiian Chieftain, which is visiting Thursday through Tuesday, July 19-24. The topsail ketch will offer walk-on tours, family-oriented adventure sails and romantic evening sails Friday through Tuesday.

No reservations are required for walk-on tours; suggested donation is $3. For pricing and reservations for the sails, see historicalseaport.org or call 800-200-5239.

The ship's schedule:

July 20: adventure sail, noon-3 p.m.; walk-on tours, 4-5 p.m., evening sail, 6-8 p.m.

July 21-22: walk-on tours, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.; evening sail, 6-8 p.m.

July 21-22: adventure sail, 2-5 p.m.

July 24: walk-on tours, 1-5 p.m.; evening sail, 6-8 p.m.

During adventure sails, people have an opportunity to raise a sail, sing a sea shanty and take the helm, conditions permitting.
