BELLINGHAM - A Bellingham man suspected of a drive-by shooting at a home on Henry Street turned himself in Wednesday afternoon.

Sergey Petrovich Zhuk, 26, tried "to contact an acquaintance" at a home in the 2500 block of Henry Street at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, said Bellingham police spokesman Mark Young. The six people inside barred Zhuk from entering.

After he went back to his gold Acura Legend, the residents heard gunfire in an apparent drive-by shooting. Bullets hit the home, but nobody was hurt.

Police released a photo of Zhuk and a description of his Acura Legend. He was booked into jail at 5 p.m. Wednesday on investigation of assault in the first degree, after turning himself in.

Zhuk had a history of violence. He charged a police officer with an 8-inch bayonet knife in 2008, after he broke into a unit at Bellingar Storage.

He ran away when the officer shot him in the arm once. Police arrested him the next day. He was sentenced to five years in prison in that case.
