Lots of road construction scheduled for I-5 exits next week

Published: July 6, 2012

BELLINGHAM - Drivers should expect lane closures for a few nights next week on stretches of Meridian Street and Interstate 5.

On Monday night, July 9, southbound on- and off-ramps will close at the Meridian Street and I-5 interchange. Three northbound lanes and one southbound lane of Meridian also will close near the freeway.

Drivers will be detoured.

Construction workers are fixing a dip on northbound Meridian at the Bellis Fair Parkway intersection and the potholes in the southbound on-ramp.

From July 10 to 12, one lane of southbound I-5 will close at night between the Meridian and Lakeway Drive exits while crews repair rough bridge transitions. The lane should reopen at 5:30 a.m. Friday.

During the construction, drivers might want to use the Northwest Avenue or West Bakerview Road ramps to and from I-5.

For details about the Bellingham closures, go to wsdot.wa.gov and search for "Guide Meridian."

More I-5 night construction will be going on south of Bellingham, too. Crews expect to close ramps at Bow Hill Road, Cook Road and Lake Samish Road at night, starting July 9, for about a week.

For more on the closures between Burlington and Lake Samish, visit wsdot.wa.gov, search for "Nulle" and click on the first result.
