What's open, closed July 4 in Whatcom County

Government offices and some businesses will close Wednesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.

Most large retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters and video stores will be open, though some places may have limited hours. Smaller retail stores may close; call ahead to check.

Here is a list of some key places and their status Wednesday.

Government offices

Whatcom County offices: closed.

Bellingham city offices: closed.

Whatcom County library branches, bookmobile: closed.

Bellingham Public Library: closed.

Bellingham parking meters: not enforced.

Services/businesses

Banks: closed.

U.S. Postal Service: closed, no mail delivery.

Garbage: regular pickup schedule for SSC and Nooksack Valley Disposal customers.

WTA buses: no buses running.

The Bellingham Herald: offices closed but regular newspaper delivery. If you don't get your paper Wednesday morning, call 360-676-2660 between 6 and 9 a.m.

Opportunity Council: closed.

YMCA: closed.

Boys & Girls clubs: closed.

Movie theaters, most video stores: open regular hours.

Stores

Grocery stores: Most have regular hours. Exceptions: Trader Joe's will close at 5 p.m. The Community Food Co-op in downtown Bellingham and in Cordata close at 8 p.m.

Bellis Fair: open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some stores with outside entrances may have longer hours; call ahead.

Schools

Public schools: closed.

Whatcom Community College: closed.

Western Washington University: closed.

Bellingham Technical College: closed.
