The Post 7 senior legion baseball club ended up on the wrong side of a 10 inning marathon game, losing to Walla Walla 5-4 in a third-fourth place game during the 31st Annual Firecracker Wood Bat Tournament Sunday, July 1, in Yakima.
Trailing 3-1 in the top of the seventh with two outs and runners in scoring position, Walla Walla hit a routine ground ball that took a nasty hop over the head of Post 7's short stop, as two runs came in to force extras.
Walla Walla took a 4-3 lead in the ninth, but Post 7 responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 4-4, but could the senior legion club couldn't out another run across in the 10th inning after Walla Walla added another run.
Chase Heslep pitched nine strong innings, and John Albert, Jordan Kreider, Ben Wilson and Cody Mason enjoyed multi-hit games.
"Chase Heslep had a real big game," Post 7 coach Steve Slesk said in a phone interview. "He kept his pitch count low, and he really deserved the win."
Post 7 continues its road trip and will face Columbia Basin at 5 p.m. Monday, July 2, in Ephrata.
