Whatcom County Public Works crews were still cleaning up Monday, June 25, after a sudden, intense storm knocked down trees and branches Saturday afternoon.
The storm brought a heavy downpour, wind, thunder and even hail in some areas of the county, and some roads were blocked by downed trees.
Gusts of 20 to 36 mph were recorded at Bellingham International Airport between 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. Nearly 1/3 inch of rain fell in an hour at the airport during the storm. Higher totals were reported in the east county.
Public works crews were responding to downed trees and debris in the roads countywide Saturday, though Glenhaven, Acme Valley and Mosquito Lake Road were the hardest hit.
