Bow creamery recalls cheese after contaminated sample found

Published: June 13, 2012

BOW - A cheddar cheese produced at Golden Glen Creamery and sold between March 1 and June 7 has been voluntarily recalled due to a risk of illness.

A sample of the Bow creamery's red pepper with onion & garlic cheddar tested positive for listeria. Other samples of the same batch have not shown signs of the bacteria, and no illnesses have been reported.

The infection can be fatal, especially in unborn and young children, and elderly people.

The recalled cheese was sold in one-third to one-half pound pieces with labels that read, "Medium Cheddar - Red Pepper with Onion & Garlic" and "Natural handcrafted cheese produced by the Jensen Ladies," with the code "887." These products were sold at farmers markets and independent retailers in Washington and Oregon.

Anyone who bought the cheese may return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions should call the creamery between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at 360-766-6455, or email info@goldenglencreamery.com.
