BLAINE - Drivers headed to Blaine or the border crossing Sunday, June 10, should expect extra traffic and a freeway exit closed for the annual Hands Across the Border celebration.
The event, now in its 90th year, marks peace and friendship between the U.S. and Canada. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Peace Arch State Park, where youth groups from both sides of the border will gather for a parade, flag exchange and other activities.
The event is free and open to the public, but a Discover Pass - $30 for an annual pass or $10 for a day pass - is needed to park at the state park.
During the event, Interstate 5 will be closed at exit 276 (D Street), with a detour will be in place. Cars going north into Canada should use the Pacific Highway truck crossing.
