The Ferndale girls' basketball team saw its season come to a close with a 70-54 loss to Lynnwood on Saturday, Feb. 18, in the consolation third-round game of the Class 3A Northwest District Tournament at Lynnwood.

Golden Eagles coach Mike Ivy said the first half was rough as Lynnwood hit eight of its 10 3-pointers and outscored Ferndale 21-6 in the first quarter and 24-18 in the second.

"That first quarter they just killed us ... it didn't matter if we were man or zone," Ivy said in a phone interview. "We tried to get together as a staff and figure out what to do. We tried everything but it didn't work out tonight."

Kendra Bodger had nine points and eight rebounds, and Brooke Benson also had nine points as the Golden Eagles (14-10) only shot 18 of 64 from the field.

Jasmin Edwards had 18 points for Lynnwood and Aresenia Ivanov added 15.

Ivy said Ferndale's future looks bright with only losing two seniors - Hannah Burgler and Katie Brudwick - and no starters.

"We should be good next year but we have to get in the gym (in the offseason) and improve and I think we'll do that," Ivy said. "You can't rely on potential."
