One-day match for donations to Bellingham family injured in fire

An anonymous donor has offered to match donations made for 24 hours starting Friday, Feb. 24, to the fund for a Bellingham family injured in a house fire on New Year's Day.

The donor will match all donations made from noon Friday to noon Saturday, Feb. 25, up to $10,000.

Jennifer and Joseph MacGregor, along with their daughters Willow and Summer, were sent to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with burns and other injuries after a fire broke out in their Happy Valley home Jan. 1.

Jennifer and Summer have since left the hospital and are staying at the Ronald McDonald House, said Elisabeth White, who has been organizing fundraising for the family. Willow has moved to Seattle Children's hospital. Joseph remains hospitalized.

Fundraising efforts so far have raised about $38,000 for the family, though White said that won't compare to their hospital bills. Jennifer and Joseph don't have health insurance, though their daughters are covered.

Those interested in taking advantage of the match can go to any Peoples Bank location and donate to the MacGregor Family Benefit Account.
