Lynden's seventh- and eighth-grade boys' basketball teams won their divisions at the Seattle youth Basketball Tournament last weekend in Auburn.
The seventh-grade team had wins over Plateau Panthers 74-26 and Hoopers 71-20. In the title game Lynden defeated ECBA Mad Ants 66-23 and improve its record to 32-8. The team players are Davis Bode, Landon DeBruin, Shane Hatch, Jacob Hommes, Jared House, Andrew Kivlighn, Dawson Ohligschlager, Rylan Severson and Connor Shine.
The eighth-grade team had wins over Riverside 62-20, Centralia 62-47 and Hoop Dreams 47-41. In the title game Lynden beat AAU Emerald City Hoopstars 62-57 and improve its record to 41-4. The team players are Alex Crabtree, Nathanial Fleishman, Noah King, Caden Lair, Jensen Mayberry, Dalton Ohligschlager, Jake Poag, Blake Sandland, Sterling Somers, Taiji VanDalen and Jordan Wittenberg.
Lynden teams are coached by Steve Somers, Dave Ohligschlager, Bill Shine and Rick Lair.
LOCAL RUGBY PLAYERS IN TOURNAMENT
Seven players from the Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club and a coach were selected to play for the Washington all-star team and traveled to Las Vegas to participate in an international rugby sevens touranent last weekend.
The Chuckanut Bay Rugby Club players who played in the tournament were Joey Malloy, Blaze Yetter, Nate Freimund, Wiatte Vasey, Mason Houseman, Titi Lamositele and Luke Portillo, and the coach selected was Chris Rowell.
The tournament included 16 international teams over a three-day period and the largest rugby event held in the United States.
LOCAL ROLLER DERBY RESULTS

Public Frenemy (Vancouver, B.C.) defeated FLASH 186-54. FLASH MVP was Katie Belfield.
Tough Love beat Cog Blockers 198-64. Tough Love MPV was Christina Campbell and the Cog Blockers MVP was Charlotte Nickel.
BELLINGHAM BAY ROUGH WATER RACE
The Bellingham Bay Rough Water Race will be at 10:15 a.m. on March 3 with pre-race starting at 9:30 a.m.
The race, open to OCs, SUPs, HPKs, kayaks and rowers, consists of a two-loop long course and one loop short course, approximately 5 miles per loop. Lifejackets are required to be worn.
Cost is $20 per person and $15 for Sound Rower Members and shirts for the first 70 participants. The race will start at the Fairhaven Trailer Launch and Bellingham Boating Community Center and registration will be open at 8:15 a.m.

RAPIDS DROP MATCH TO WENATCHEE
The WSA Rapids indoor soccer team lost its final match of the regular season 8-4 to the Wenatchee Fire last weekend.
The Rapids were led by Kellan Brown who had a goal and two assists. Nick Saletto, Matt Fishabaugher and Kyle Holland each scored a goal.
The Rapids will host Snohomish Skyhawks at 7:15 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Bellingham Sportsplex in a first-round playoff game. If the Rapids win they will play for the league championship and a berth into the PASL National Championships in San Diego.
Tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for youths.
SNOWSHOE FEST 2012 IN MARCH
Snowshoe Fest 2012 will be held at Heather Meadows at the Mt. Baker Ski Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 17.
Bring snowshoes and wearing green is encouraged for St. Patrick's Day. Activities include: snowshoe races for kids and adults; treasure hunts in the snow; free raffle drawings; avalanche awareness talk; snowcave demo; and snowslides for kids.
