Apply now for big-game Super Hunts

If controlled hunts confuse you, or you just want more than one chance for your favorite hunt, there’s a simple way to compete for the best tags in the state.

Idaho’s Super Hunt and Super Hunt Combo drawing awards 40 big game tags every year.

The tags are drawn in two lotteries for elk, deer and pronghorn and moose tags. Winners of a tag can participate in any open hunt for the species in which they’re drawn, including general hunts and controlled hunts. The Super Hunt allows a lucky hunter to hunt all four species.

Hunters can apply as many times as they want for Super Hunts and the Super Hunt Combo tags, and proceeds from the lottery support hunter and angler access to and across private lands through the Access Yes program.

The first Super Hunt application (or lottery ticket) costs $6, and each additional entry costs $4 when purchased at the same time. A Super Hunt Combo ticket costs $20 and $16 for additional tickets.

Deadline for the first drawing is May 31, with the drawing set for June 15.

The first drawing in June will be for eight elk, eight deer and eight pronghorn hunts as well as one moose hunt.

One Super Hunt Combo entry also will be drawn.

A second drawing will be in mid-August when another “Super Hunt Combo” and entries for two elk, two deer and two pronghorn hunts along with one moose hunt will be drawn.

The entry period for the second drawing is June 1 through Aug. 10.

Entries are available at license vendors, all Fish and Game offices, or they can be ordered on line at fishandgame.idaho.gov or by phone at 800-554-8685.

Application period for traditional fall big-game controlled hunts is in May.
