In a final primer before the Class 2A District Tournament begins, the Sehome girls' basketball team easily handed city-rival Squalicum, beating the Storm 62-32 in a Northwest Conference matchup Monday, Feb. 6, at Squalicum High School.
The Mariners (15-5, 10-3 NWC) generated an impressive 22-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way.
Sehome's Jori Hall scored a team-high 11 points and hauled in eight rebounds, while Hallie Messenger added 10 points in the win.
"I felt like we did a very nice job tonight," Sehome coach Kim Kirk said in a phone interview. "We came out strong at the beginning of the game and that definitely helped us build a lead. I thought Jori had a real nice game tonight, and I thought Mackenzie Caldwell and Maddy Bryan did a good job coming off our bench."
Squalicum's Gina Flint scored a team-high 11 points in the loss.
The Mariners have earned the No. 3 seed in the Class 2A District Tournament and will travel to play Cedarcrest in a first round matchup at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Cedarcrest High School. Squalicum's season is over.
