Marcus Reynolds had 15 points and eight rebounds to help the Bellingham boys' basketball team jump out to a dominating start and win at Nooksack Valley 55-40 in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, Feb. 3.
The Red Raiders (4-15, 3-9 NWC) put a stop to a two-game losing skid and it all started with their command of the first quarter.
Bellingham took a 16-2 lead into the second quarter. Nooksack Valley coach Tyler Mitchell said in a phone interview his team took too many 3-pointers in the first quarter.
"We got some good looks, we just didn't knock them down," Mitchell said. "We were taking way too many 3s the first quarter, but the kids played hard the rest of the game."
The Pioneers (1-18, 1-11) played even with Bellingham the rest of the way, but couldn't overcome their early hole.
Trey Handy led Nooksack Valley with 14 points and B.J. Salmonson scored 10.
Bellingham next hosts Meridian, while Nooksack Valley hosts Blaine. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
