The Lynden girls' basketball team has essentially been playing postseason games the past week as it fights for the fifth and final slot to the Class 2A district tournament - lose and its run is over.
The Lions are still running.
Kortney Grattic led Lynden with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Lions defeated visiting Blaine 51-47 on Thursday, Feb. 2, to remain in contention of the final postseason spot with just one game remaining.
Lynden started off the game on an 11-0 run, but Blaine rallied back to trail by one at halftime.
But the third quarter was all Lions. They held Blaine to just five points in the quarter and held off a fourth quarter rally to earn the win.
"The kids came out with a lot of intensity," Lynden coach Rob Adams said in a phone interview. "But they have a fantastic team and have been resilient all season. They kept clawing away, but we went on a nice run to answer back."
Blaine (13-5, 8-3 NWC) entered the night as the second-best team in the Northwest Conference Standings while Lynden (13-6, 8-4) sat in sixth.
The Lions moved to fifth with the win, a half-game ahead of Anacortes (10-8, 7-4). However, they do not own the tiebreaker. But with a game left to go, Adams said there are eight different scenarios that could get his team into the postseason.
Blaine next travels to Sehome at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, while Lynden hosts Sedro-Woolley at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
