The Mount Baker boys' basketball team started slow and couldn't rally all the way back as it lost to visiting Burlington-Edison 69-58 in a Northwest Conference game on Thursday, Feb. 2.
The Mountaineers (4-15, 2-10 NWC) trailed by 13 after the first quarter (22-9). They clawed their way back through the next two quarters, however, and found themselves down by one point in the third quarter after a 3-pointer from Addison King.
But that was as close as it got, as Burlington-Edison pulled away from there.
"We didn't come out defensively like we needed to," Mount Baker coach Rob Gray said in a phone interview. "We got things figured out in the second quarter and got ourselves back in the game, but we just let it get away from us."
King led Mount Baker with 16 points, Blake Compton scored 11 and Aaron Baddeley had 10.
Aaron Watts scored a game-high 21 points and had 10 rebounds for Burlington-Edison. The Tigers outrebounded the Mountaineers 46-28.
Mount Baker next travels to Ferndale at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
