Nate Wielenga hit 5 of 7 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points as the Lynden boys' basketball team had little trouble with visiting Nooksack Valley to win 64-18 in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Wielenga drained four of his 3-pointers in the first half as Lynden went into the break leading 36-6. The Pioneers were held to one point in the third quarter.
"We really shot the ball well early on," Lynden coach Brian Roper said in a phone interview. "Nate had it going from the outside. I think life is a little easier when you are shooting well from the outside, especially early."
Lynden (14-3, 9-1 NWC) also got help from Zach Vis' six points, seven rebounds and three assists. Jalani Phelps scored seven points, while John Shine and Dak Shagren each added six.
Ben Prink led Nooksack Valley (1-17, 1-10) with nine points.
Lynden next travels to Blaine at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, while Nooksack Valley waits to host Bellingham at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3.
