WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Defense propels Orcas to win over Seattle CC

Cambie Edwards scored 19 points, Kellie Fluit had 12 points and nine rebounds and the Whatcom Community College women's basketball team defeated host Seattle Community College 68-45 in an NWAACC North Division game on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Whatcom (10-8, 5-3) held Seattle to 24 percent shooting (17 for 70). The Orcas made 41 percent of their shots (24 of 59).

"We did a really good job of defending the key tonight," Whatcom coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "We went into the game trying to force them to take outside shots and they did just that."

Seattle took 32 shots from behind the 3-point arch, but made just seven.

Fluit led the team in both rebounds and assists (4). Allie Holterman scored 11 points and Erika Locker had seven.

KeAvanna Porter led Seattle with 15 points.
