Dejan Stefanovic scored 18 points, Gabe Trump added 11 and the Blaine boys' basketball team edged host Bellingham 53-45 in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, Jan. 27, to end a nine game losing streak.
It was the Borderites' first victory since Dec. 16. Blaine (4-13, 2-9 NWC) made 16 of 29 free throws throughout the game, while making key shots down the stretch.
"Blaine just worked harder and did better things than us tonight," Bellingham coach Ken Crawford said in a phone interview. "We would get close and make a run but never got over the hump. They had a good game plan, though, so give them the credit."
Nick Zeegers and Blake Zender each scored 14 points for Bellingham (3-14, 2-8). It was the fourth game for Bellingham in five days.
Blaine hosts Squalicum next at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30, while Bellingham travels to Lynden Christian at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31.
