The Lynden Christian girls' basketball team jumped out to a commanding lead from the start and never let it go as the Lyncs defeated host Meridian 61-35 in a Northwest Conference game on Friday, Jan. 27, to earn their third straight win.
Lynden Christian (9-8, 5-5 NWC) didn't allow Meridian a single field goal in the first quarter as it led 18-1 headed into the second quarter.
"LC came out and played a really fundamental game tonight," Meridian coach Don McMains said in a phone interview. "We shot poorly in the first quarter and dug ourselves a hole."
Nine players scored for the Lyncs, led by Karley De Jager's 13. Jasmine Hommes had scoring games of 23 points and 27 points her previous two entering Friday, but was held to seven against Meridian.
Ali Wasel and Sara Dougan each scored seven points for Meridian.
Lynden Christian travels to Bellingham High School next to take on the Red Raiders, while Meridian heads to Mount Baker. Both games start at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31.
