BELLINGHAM - There are no free lunches, unless you're the vandal who threw a cinder block through a glass door at Logos Bible Software early Tuesday, Jan. 24.
The 22-year-old brick-slinger was caught on Logos security footage throwing the block through a glass side door, after he missed on his first attempt. Logos posted the video on a blog, making a joke about the incident in relation to a new software update release.
On Thursday, the vandal called Logos Vice President Dan Pritchett several times, confessing and apologizing for his crime.
"Dan was impressed with his sincerity to turn things around," said Michael Haverluck, senior media relations specialist for Logos. "We're not going to press charges."
After talking with the man, who said he was going through some issues with alcohol and wanted to resolve things with Logos before going to his grandmother's house for dinner that night, Pritchett decided to take him to lunch next week, Haverluck said.
"He said he was sincerely sorry and will pay for the damages he did to the window, and that he didn't specifically target Logos," Haverluck said. "Money isn't the issue here. We want to make sure that it's not a repeat occurrence, which we highly doubt in this case."
The blog post and video of the vandalism actually helped Logos get the word out on two new products, Haverluck said.
"The blog post generated the interest and it went viral," he said. "It helped get the word out, get the problem resolved and intrigued interest in our products."
Haverluck said the man plans to pay Logos for the door when he gets his paychecks and that he is looking forward to going to lunch with Pritchett next week.
"He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time with a cinder block," Haverluck said.
